Sachin Tendulkar New Delhi, Oct 16 (ANI): A cricket bat autographed by ace cricketer Sachin Tendulkar would y be the major attraction at a sporting memorabilia charity auction scheduled to be held on October 29 in Mumbai.

Tendulkar donated the bat, which he used during a one-day international innings in New Zealand.

“It was satisfying not least because I kept up a decent strike rate [with it] and India won the game!” the BBC quoted him, as saying in a statement.

The auction would also reportedly include a number of items of tennis superstar Roger Federer, chess world champion Vishwanathan Anand, and Olympic gold medallist Abhinav Bindra.

The items for sale include a cricket bat used by Tendulkar, tennis shoes signed by Federer, Anand’s world chess championship gold medal, and Bindra’s world championship rifle.

The amount would reportedly be given to a charity, which funds schooling for children in remote parts of the country.

The auction has been organised by the charity’s founder, Rahul Bose, a former national rugby player and a well-known Indian actor.

“When I thought of raising funds… many suggested an art auction but I know nothing about art,” the report quoted Bose, as saying.

Organisers say they were “pleasantly surprised” when a variety of sports celebrities readily agreed to contribute towards the auction with their memorabilia.

Over 200 selected bidders will take part in the auction, the report said. (ANI)
