Washington, January 23 (ANI): A 16-year-old has landed in controversy after posting a tweet on his popular Twitter page @OMGFacts.
Adorian Deck created the feed on the popular social networking website in September 2009 and attracted more than 300,000 followers by posting eye-popping facts from a variety of topics, ranging from celebrities and pop culture to world history and commerce.
The Californian teen also managed to draw attention from high profilers like Alyssa Milano, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian with tweets, such as “Ashton Kutcher has two webbed toes”, “Women end up digesting most of the lipstick they apply”, and “The first product that Sony came out with was a rice cooker”.
“It was very incredible. I never thought of it. It’s just insanity,” ABCNews.com quoted Deck as saying.
But the high school junior courted trouble when he posted, “Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. spent his last night on Earth having sex with two women”.
The controversial tweet sparked strong criticism from followers, including accusations of being racist and disrespectful.
One tweeter said: “Unfollow @OMGFacts for their crude tweet about Martin Luther King Jr yesterday!”
Another added: “What a disrespectful way to dishonor MLK.”
Rapper Q-Tip commented, “it wasnt racist just tasteless.”
Deck, who temporarily went into hiatus following the post, said: “Basically, as OMGFacts has gotten bigger… it’s gotten to my head a bit. I’ve started to say things to the public that I don’t think about at first. … I don’t think about what that sounds like to other people. [The post] wasn’t meant to be racist or disrespectful to other people.”
He added: “I don’t regret it. I learned a humongous lesson of responsibility.” (ANI)
