Teen Charged With Attempted Rape & Slaying Of Cheltenham Teacher
August 2nd, 2010 - 8:07 pm ICT by Angela Kaye MasonAug 2 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Prosecutors are asking for a 14 year old boy to be tried as an adult. A teenage boy has been charged on Wednesday of first degree murder and attempted rape of a teacher at the Cheltenham Youth Facility located in Prince George’s County, a facility which has has violence and trouble for quite some time.
The juvenile charges which were made against the teen from Laurel come five months after the partially clothed body of 65 year old teacher, Hannah E Wheeling was found by another staff member at the facility at a quarter till 8 in the morning on February 18, outside the light security juvenile offender program.
The boy’s name has been withheld due to his age, he was 13 at the time of the crime, and has so far been charged as a juvenile. If he were convicted as an adult of first degree murder, he could face life in prison with no chance of parole as well as separate sentences for the attempted first degree rape and first degree sex offense. If he is found to be “involved” in a juvenile court, however, he would most likely be confined for rehabilitation in another juvenile facility, but only until he is 21 in 7 years.
