Teacher conveys apology for using racial slurs against Malay Indian students
September 2nd, 2010 - 1:11 pm ICT by ANIGeorge Town (Malaysia), Sep.2 (ANI): A teacher of a secondary school in Malaysia’s Bukit Jambul area has issued an apology for using racial slurs and vulgar words against five Malay Indian students.
The parents of the students, who attended a two-hour meeting with the school’s senior assistant and representatives of the Parent-Teacher Association here yesterday, have accepted the apology, though the teacher was not present, The Star reports.
A senior teacher tendered the apology on the errant teacher’s part.
It was reported on August 31 that the teacher had uttered foul language and made derogatory remarks to five students during a pre-National Day celebration at the school last Thursday.
He was upset because the students were said to have worn their jippa, kurta and cheongsam with jeans instead of the complete traditional outfits.
State Education Department director Ibrahim Mohamad said the teacher was issued a memo. (ANI)
