Tea Party star O’Donnell quips she ‘dabbled with witchcraft’ in high school

Washington, Sept 29 (ANI): Republican Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell has joked about the comments she made more than a decade ago about having dabbled in witchcraft when she was in high school.
“How many of you didn’t hang out with questionable folks in high school?” O’Donnell asked fellow Republicans at a GOP picnic in southern Delaware on Sunday.
“There’s been no witchcraft since. If there was, Karl Rove would be a supporter now,” Politico quoted her, as saying jokingly.
Rove, the former GOP strategist and adviser to President George W. Bush, has suggested that O’Donnell’s win in last week’s GOP primary cost Republicans a chance to retake the Senate seat long held by Democrat Joe Biden before he was elected vice president.
Last week Miss O’Donnell celebrated her historic victory in the Delaware primary with the backing of former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
However, the release of a videotape by HBO’s ‘Real Time’ host Bill Maher from a show he hosted in 1999 called ‘Politically Incorrect’ has sparked controversy.
“I dabbled into witchcraft. I never joined a coven. I hung around people who were doing these things. I’m not making this stuff up. I know what they told me they do,” O’Donnell told Maher during the show, a clip of which hit the Internet.
O’Donnell, a conservative Christian activist, rode a surging tide of tea party activism and defeated Michael Castle, Delaware’s long time congressman and former two-term governor. She would face Democratic county executive Chris Coons in November mid-term polls. (ANI)
