Kuala Lumpur, Apr 15 (ANI): The Tamil and Sikh communities in Malaysia have celebrating Varisha Pirappu (new year) and Vesakhi in their own unique style.

Tamils celebrate “Kara” or the New Year to mark the beginning of the Chittirai month, the first month of the Tamil calendar.

Some of them prayed in their homes, while others had temples, where deities were bathed followed by a special pooja (prayers). People in the temples were founds in colourful traditional costumes and carrying fruits, betel leaves and nuts, flowers and sweets as offerings, The Star reports.

Sikhs also celebrated Vesakhi on Thursday, marking the 312th year of the establishment of the Khalsa order. The celebrations began with the recitation of the 1,430-page of the Sikh holy scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

The paper quoted Sikh Youth Organisation (SNSM) head Amarjeet Singh in Seremban as saying that the festival holds great importance as it stresses on equality among all sections of people. (ANI)
