Swindon becomes Walt Disney World’s first ever twin town
December 8th, 2009 - 5:10 pm ICT by ANI ( Leave a comment )London, December 08 (ANI): Swindon, a town in Britain, has become Walt Disney World’s first ever twin town.
The Wiltshire town has been chosen over 24 hotspots including Blackpool, Aberdeen, Chester, Milton Keynes and Wigan.
Twenty-year-old Rebecca Warren promoted the town in her short film as having a “friendly village feel” and is “full of team spirit.”
The film highlighted Swindon’s similarities with the theme park.
Warren became successful in convincing the judges including children’s television presenter Angellica Bell and one of the famous Walt Disney Imagineers Patrick Brennan that her hometown deserved the crown.
“I still cannot believe that my entry has been selected - it’s fantastic!” The Telegraph quoted her as saying.
She added: “What a great opportunity for Swindon, we’ll definitely welcome the Disney magic. It will be so exciting to see Swindon’s name alongside Walt Disney World on the sign in Florida.
“My wish was always to be Cinderella with a beautiful ball gown, so I’m really looking forward to dressing the part for the twinning ceremony in January!”
Also, Disney’s Hugh Wood said Britain had been selected because Brits visit the Florida theme park the most after Americans.
He said: “Britain clearly has a love for Walt Disney World and long-standing affinity with the parks and their magic.
“Rebecca’s video really stood out. Her local pride and creative approach, coupled with her obvious knowledge of Walt Disney World just made the difference. We’re looking forward to building a friendly and magical relationship with our new twin, Swindon.”
Warren will head to Florida to unveil the “Walt Disney World Twinned with Swindon” plaque in January.
She will even collect one to bring back to Swindon to showcase. (ANI)
