Jan 11, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Capitol South Metro station had to be closed down on Monday for a brief period of time owing to a package that caused suspicion. However, after thorough investigation, the officials declared that the package under suspicion was not dangerous as such. The package was detected for the first time by a bomb sniffing dog which made the officials smell the rat. An X-ray was carried out and it revealed that the parcel did not contain any thing worth attention. Thereafter, the Capitol South Metro station was reopened and operations returned to normalcy. When the station was shut down temporarily, the commuters were not allowed to leave the station. Instead they were sent to other stations. The incident sparked some tension among the commuters but the cops ensured that things do not get out of control. As it is, the closure did not last for long.
After the shooting incident at Arizona that resulted in 6 casualties and several injuries, the U.S. Government seems to be on high alert. After a sniffer dog pointed at the package, a huge number of cops surrounded the station. Sgt. Kimberly Schneider, a spokesperson for the Capitol Police admitted that though there was nothing dangerous in the package. The fact that the metro station is only two blocks away from Capitol building made the cops tighten the security blanket during the operation.
The authorities were relieved after the X-Ray results made it clear there was nothing like any explosives in the package. Some passengers were made to use an elevator to exit the station during the closure.
