Washington, Mar 3(ANI): German investigators believe the gunman, who killed two U.S. military personnel outside Frankfurt airport on Wednesday, could have had links with Muslim terror groups.
According to CBS News, German Police have “substantial evidence” that the suspect, identified as 21-year-old Arid Uka, was linked to Islamic extremist groups inside Germany.
Investigators were also looking into witness reports that the gunman shouted, “God is great!”, in Arabic (Allahu Akbar) as he began firing.
Federal prosecutors were not immediately available for comment.
Two American airmen were killed, and two others were injured in the attack.
Earlier, US President Barack Obama had promised to “spare no effort” in investigating the slayings.
“I’m saddened and I’m outraged by this attack,” Obama had said.
The U.S. has some 50,000 troops stationed in Germany.
It operates several major facilities in the Frankfurt region, including the Ramstein Air Base, which is often used as a logistical hub for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq. (ANI)
