Survivors Remember The Fateful Pearl Harbor Day

Pearl HarborDec 8, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It looks like people move on and time takes its toll. No one knows it better than the survivors of the Pearl Harbor attack. At the New York Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum, three survivors of the attack that plunged America into World War II, were seen marking the 69th anniversary of the fateful day in 1941.

Clark Simmons, 89, spoke to the media and said that it was very sad that only a few of the survivors remained. He said that he remembers the days when there used to be 40-50 survivors marking the anniversary of Pearl Harbor attack on December 7. Clark Simmons was 20 at the time of the attack but the gentleman claims that the memories of the attack are fresh in his mind. He said that he felt like it was yesterday that the Japanese attacked. He said that at that time all he figured out was that the base had been attacked and he swam to safety. The former serviceman had been injured with bullets and shrapnel in the leg and head and said that it was an experience that he would never forget.

Another survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, Daniel Fruchter, said that he was eating his breakfast when bombs began to fall 50 feet from him. He said that he survived because the bombs turned out to be dysfunctional. He also explained that everything around him was up in flames. The 92 year old former Army vet said that the Pearl Harbor attack was a reminder for America that it needs to be alert against the dangers from abroad.
