deHonolulu, Hawaii, Jan 20, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Surfers from all across the country have converged at Hawaii this week hoping desperately that the Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational surfing event would be held this year. The gala event which is eagerly awaited by noted surfers can materialize only when the height of the waves reaches above 20 feet between the month of December and February 28. The anticipation of the surfers eager to participate in the surfing competition was accentuated after the event organizers revealed that the waves are likely to reach the requisite height during daybreak on Thursday.

According to organizers, Thursday would witness the classic minimum 40- to 50-foot face waves that is considered to be perfect for the surfing competition. Although surfers are desperately hoping for big waves so that the surfing event can go underway, organizers have also added a word of caution that the spectators should be careful not to get too close to the waves and should watch the water. With the prospect looming large that the event can take place this year, crews are gearing up to put things together for the surfing fiesta.

Event organizer George Downing stated that things would transpire this year just it has over the years by watching the swell developments, getting all set and waking up to see what the day holds. The Quiksilver Big Wave Invitational is held every year in memory of Eddie Aikau who attained fame as the first lifeguard at the Waimea Bay on the North Shore. Since the event was unveiled way back in 1984, it has been held only seven times owing to the unavailability of the perfect wave height.
