Super Kings to clash with DaredevilsMay 1st, 2009 - 8:37 pm ICT by IANS
Johannesburg, May 1 (IANS) A struggling Chennai Super Kings will be hoping that their win against Rajasthan Royals was not a flash in the pan when they take on in-form Delhi Daredevils here Saturday.
Last year’s finalists Super Kings have failed to recreate the old magic and with two wins in six matches occupy fifth place in the standings.
After three loses, Super Kings beat Rajasthan Royals by 38 runs to revive their challenge.
The Chennai team’s batting line-up led by Matthew Hayden has been able to put up commanding performance but the bowling has been a let down.
The strength of Chenai’s batting order can be gauged by the fact that they have two of the leading scorers of the tournament in Hayden and Suresh Raina.
Raina was unlucky to miss a century against Daredevils, but his breathtaking 98 set-up the match for them.
The advantage with Super Kings is that it is packed with all-rounders. Albie Morkel, Jacob Oram, Raina are useful both with the bat and ball, an important quality in T20 cricket.
Daredevils lost to Rajasthan Royals after three straight wins, but came back with an impressive performance against Deccan Chargers, beating them for the first time in the tournament.
Daredevils opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir is still to find their devastating touch, and AB de Villiers and Tillekratane Dilshan have shared the bulk of the batting responsibility.
Dilshan has been the most consistent batsman and has played two match-wining knocks.
Daredevils have not fielded Glenn McGrath and Paul Collingwood which only shows their bench strength.
Daredevils bowling has come good with fast bowler Dirk Nannes getting wickets upfront while spinners Amit mishra and Daniel Vettori operate with guile in the middle overs.
