”Substantial” number of troops to return home by 2010: ObamaFebruary 2nd, 2009 - 12:46 pm ICT by ANI
Florida (United States), Feb.2 (ANI): A “substantial” number of the 140,000 troops in Iraq will be able to return home by next year’’s Super Bowl, President Obama said in an interview on Sunday before Super Bowl XLIII kicked off in Tampa, Flordia. After conversations with joint chiefs and commanders on the ground, Obama told NBC News that America is in a position to put more responsibilities on Iraq following the country’’s “significant election with no significant violence.”
“We are going to roll out in a very formal fashion what our intentions are in Iraq as well as Afghanistan. It’’s good news not only for the troops on the field but for the families who are carrying an enormous burden,” Obama said.
As far as his stimulus plan was concerned, Obama said he wanted to make sure Republican ideas were incorporated, but warned of “a tough several months” ahead.
During a visit to the Pentagon last week, Obama said the fight against terrorism is “uppermost on our minds” as he takes over management of wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. (ANI)
