Students Block Leaning Tower Of Pisa And Colosseum To Mark Protest

wwwreuterscomNov 27, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Italy has been thrown into a state of unrest after university students started protesting against educational reforms, by blocking two of the world’s heritage monuments. On Thursday, around 2,000 students turned up in the Leaning Tower of Pisa and the Colosseum to show protest. This has come up as a blow for the Silvio Berlusconi’s government which is politically in a state of struggle, and had devised for this university reform plan.

According to sources, the students marched in the northern university town of Pisa, and formed a human chain around the famous tower an ancient wonder of the world and tried to prevent tourists from entering the heritage building. Reports claim that in Rome, the students jumped over entrance turnstiles to mark their protest inside the Colosseum. Students also expressed their agitation after they started blocking roads and railways.

The day saw thousands of students marching in various cities of Italy occupying university buildings. This protests saw the clash between the police and the students. The students displayed banners and waved smoke flares outside the parliament buildings, saying out aloud that they will block this reform. Outside the Colosseum, they marched with banners reading “No profits off our future”. Tourists who had gathered at the Leaning Tower of Pisa but were banned from entering it were seen taking pictures of the protest they the students displayed from the top tier of the medieval monument. This event is the latest form of demonstrating an agitation in Europe against the severe measures. Prior to this incident, many people on Wednesday had put up a rally in London against a rise in university fees.
