Student Commits Suicide When Captured On Webcam

Sep 30, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Molly Wei and Dharun Ravi have been accused of secretly filming a sexual encounter of a roommate, Tyler Clementi with another man and releasing the content on the internet. Tyler Clementi committed suicide the next day by jumping off Washington Bridge when he discovered that he has been filmed without permission. His car was found near the bridge while his wallet was found on a walkway on the bridge . Witnesses have reported seeing him jump off the bridge. The accused both aged 18 are students of Rutgers University and have turned themselves in. It appears that this is not the first time that the two accused have filmed Tyler Clementi. They had reportedly filmed him for the first time on November 19.
The second incident which prompted Tyler Clementi to resort to suicide the next day, happened on 21 September when Tyler Clementi asked them for a few hours alone in the room. Dharun Ravi is reported to have used a webcam in that room and invited friends on on twitter to watch the happenings live on the internet. The two have been charged on the grounds of invasion of privacy for both the incidents with the second resulting in the death of Tyler Clementi.
The family of Tyler Clementi are in a state of shock as a result of the incident but have reportedly agreed to cooperate in the investigation against Molly Wei and Dharun Ravi. The two could face upto fiver years in prison if convicted of third degree offense of distributing the private content. Though only time will show how seriously the court takes the crime and the kind of severity it decides to adopt against them.
