The effects of budget cuts have been felt by the Stevens Point School District and the board members of the school have decided to take some effective measures that would help them in overcoming the fund deficit of eight million dollars. The board members have tried to figure out several ways that would help them in running the school district without financial problems.
Cutting expenses to balance the paucity of funds have been quite challenging for the leaders of this district. Dwight Stevens, the president of school board, in an interview said he considers this to be “the biggest crisis” that he has ever faced in his tenure. He also pointed some possible solutions and said they have decided to lay down some teachers to cope up with the deficiency of funds, as more than eighty percent of total budget is meant for “personnel”.
According to the reports, the leaders of the Stevens Point school district consider to reduce the number of teachers in the high schools as well as in the junior high schools. It has been reported that they are considering to terminate fifteen teachers from high schools and six teachers from junior high schools under this district. The officials have not yet confirmed any decisions regarding the job cuts of the teachers and principals of different schools are scheduled to meet with the board leaders before making any final statement regarding this. Sources also stated that increasing class room size is also another suggested way out for overcoming the lack of adequate fund.
