New York, Sep 9 (ANI): Statue of Liberty’s nose, James Dean’s sunglasses and Charleton Heston’s ‘Ten Commandments’ tablets are among 100 pop culture and historical artefacts that will go under the hammer at Guernsey’s Auction House’s Iconic Objects Auction.
Guernsey’s owner Arlan Ettinger said that it is impossible for him to predict which piece will draw the biggest bid.
“Any of these things would be the star of a normal auction,” the New York Daily News quoted him as saying.
Other bits of history up for auction range from a black fedora that Michael Jackson wore onstage at The Apollo Theater in 2002, to blankets that were in JFK’s Dallas limo, to a hand-scrawled IOU that Frank Sinatra wrote in 1963, promising to repay 4,800 dollars.
Perhaps the most striking item is a copper chunk of the Statue of Liberty’s schnozz crafted for her 1980s restoration, but not used.
“I don’t have any clue what it might bring,” said Ettinger.
There’s also a Tiffany cigarette case that ‘Gone With the Wind’ producer David Selznick gave to Clark Gable as a Christmas gift at the movie’s wrap party, a love letter Mickey Mantle wrote to his future wife, and the only known recordings of some speeches and sermons given by the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr..
“This is the only copy of his voice saying these words,” said Ettinger.
The auction is on Sept. 24 at the Park Avenue Armory. (ANI)
