A Starbucks coffee shop on Manhattan’s Upper East Side had it’s windows shattered this morning when a bomb was detonated in front of the store.
New York Police Department (NYPD) is trying to determine the cause of the blast, as well as those responsible.
The bomb was detonated in front of the coffee shop at the corner 92nd Street and Third Avenue a little before 4.00am local time, after being left on a bench in front of the shop.
The New York City Office of Emergency Management (OEM), the NYPD bomb squad, along with the Fire Department of New York (FDNY) and the NYPD responded to the explosion.
NYPD said there was no call to police before the explosion, but seven calls were made to 911 immediately following the blast.
An apartment building above Starbucks was evacuated with seven people forced from their homes and returned hours later.
The coffee shop was closed at the time of the blast. No injuries were reported and no damage to the inside of the store.
