Sri Lanka gets US aid after heavy rains
May 21st, 2010 - 2:41 pm ICT by IANSColombo, May 21 (IANS) The US has announced $50,000 in emergency humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka following massive destruction caused by torrential rains.
US ambassador Patricia Butenis issued the disaster declaration from the US Agency for International Development’s Office to the Sri Lanka Red Cross Society for emergency humanitarian assistance.
The assistance will help provide emergency food, safe drinking water, water purification tablets, water containers, medical supplies, clothing, plastic sheeting, tents and other urgently needed items.
