Sri Lanka donates flood relief to Thailand
November 23rd, 2011 - 9:49 am ICT by IANSColombo, Nov 23 (IANS) Sri Lanka has donated over $50,000 worth of aid to Thailand as flood relief, the external affairs ministry said.
External Affairs Minister G.L Peiris handed over a token of the consignment to Rungnapa Srivannavit, the charge d’affaires of the Royal Thai Embassy in Colombo, Xinhua reported citing a ministry statement.
The aid package included 100,000 bottles of drinking water and 150 water tanks that would be transferred to Thai authorities through the Sri Lankan embassy in Bangkok.
The ministry in collaboration with the Sri Lanka Tea Board has also arranged for 1,300 kg of tea to be sent to Thailand.
Over 600 people have died and nearly five million displaced in one of the worst floods in Thailand.
