Spanish villagers share PS158 big Xmas lottery winDecember 23rd, 2007 - 6:22 pm ICT by admin
London , Dec 23 (ANI): Life has surely changed for the 45 inhabitants of a remote village in northern Spain after they shared a whopping158 million pounds lottery win.
The residents of Molledo shared the pay-out of the huge sum on the country’s big Christmas lottery draw.
The prize will be used up in the transformation of the village in depressed Asturias , a region of coal-mining and fishing.
The winnings came from El Gordo, “the Fat One”, which distributed prizes worth 1.6 billion pounds to winners across Spain , the world’s biggest lottery.
When the Molledo Fiestas Association sold 400 tickets to villagers and their friends, it resulted in the most striking success story.
Many winners cracked open the cider, the region’s traditional drink, instead of champagne or cava, as their numbers came up,
“Rivers of Asturian cider will flow,” the Telegraph quoted Jorge Fernandez, who runs a bar in the village, as saying.
Winners revealed that they planned to travel, pay off their mortgages and “see what luxury hotels look like inside”.
However, one woman was modest enough to say that she wanted a food mixer.
The locals anticipated that the win will help the village to survive after years of depopulation.
“For many people here this will mean they can retire in the village or open their own business, said one resident. (ANI)
