London, Feb 4 (ANI): Bridesmaids in the UK may soon be forced by a bride-to-be to sign contracts stating that they will not put on weight or get pregnant before her wedding.

The finding is based on a new poll by You & Your Wedding magazine that found that one in five brides-to-be are increasingly getting the jitters that their maid-of-honour will let her down, that they are seriously giving this kind of agreement a thought.

According to the poll of 1,000 women, the biggest issue that brides-to-be have is dealing with bridesmaids who put on weight, became pregnant or changed their hairstyles before the wedding.

You & Your Wedding magazine asked for clauses that could be added into the contract and found that apart from these above three, brides-to-be wanted to make sure that their bridesmaids did not drink more than 10 units of alcohol or hitting on “inappropriate male guests” - or the groom.

And, 48 percent of the respondents said that they would sack their bridesmaid if she didnt stick to the rules.

All this despite the fact that 61 per cent of brides pick a best friend to be their maid-of-honour, and 49 percent choose their sister.

“Planning weddings can be a stressful time for brides and while our contract is meant to be tongue-in-cheek, the survey demonstrates that issues with bridesmaids are of concern to many readers,” the Telegraph quoted Colette Harris, editor of You & Your Wedding magazine, as saying.

“Perhaps official contracts are the way forward for brides struggling to keep the peace.” (ANI)
