Jaipur, May 15 (IANS) Congress president Sonia Gandhi Thursday visited Jaipur’s walled city areas that had been ripped apart by a series of blasts and called on the injured at the Sawai Man Singh hospital here. Gandhi, who was accompanied by Home Minister Shivraj Patil and former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot, went straight to the Hanuman Temple in Sanganaheri Gate where the most powerful of the eight blasts occurred Tuesday evening.
The area, where a crater had been formed, was deserted when Gandhi visited as a curfew has been imposed. Gandhi also went to the Badi Chopar area nearby where two blasts had occurred. She then visited the injured in hospital.
Gandhi landed here around 9.30 a.m. The serial blasts killed 63 people and injured 216, according to the state government.
