Something fishy happening on Norway beach
January 4th, 2012 - 11:50 am ICT by IANSLondon, Jan 4 (IANS) Experts in Norway have been left baffled since finding thousands of fish, weighing about 20 tonnes, lying on a beach.
Experts were stunned after so many dead herring, an oily fish, washed up on Norway’s western coast, the Sun reported.
The bizarre incident was noticed on the Kvaenes beach of Nordreisa municipality.
“We have seen herring stranded before but never this much,” said biologist Ole Kristian Berg at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.
Berg added that the tides may have left the fish stranded on the beach, or that a predator may have chased them out of the water.
The incident comes just days after an entire flock of blackbirds suddenly dropped dead over a US town on New Year’s Eve. It was the second New Year in a row that had seen a large group of birds die in Beebe, Arkansas.
