Tripoli, May 14 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The sole survivor of Wednesday’s tragic plane crash has reunited with his relatives. The 9-year-old boy - Ruben van Assouw, is the only survivor in the crash that claimed 103 lives. His relatives including an aunt and an uncle went to the boys’ hospital room in Tripoli Libya, where the boy is recovering from a series of surgeries that have been performed on him in order to save his life.
The Dutch boy lost his parents and older brother in the crash. The boys’ family was returning to their home in Holland from South Africa, via Libya when their plane crashed at the Tripoli airport. The family had gone to South Africa to celebrate their wedding anniversary. The boy has not been told as yet, that his parents and his older brother are dead. The boy is said to be active, according to hospital officials who revealed that he is talking and can listen well.
It was a sheer miracle that Ruben survived in the crash, as the plane was badly damaged. Rescuers found the boy trapped in his seat and breathing. They then pulled him from the rubble and rushed him to the hospital emergency room where he was operated on. Doctors said that his spinal cord was not affected by the crash and there was no internal bleeding, as yet.
