Johannesburg, May 13 (IANS) Indian Premier League’s SMS-based mobile game that was criticised for promoting betting has been stopped and is currently under review.
The ball by ball prediction mobile game came in for sharp criticism from several quarters for promoting betting and gambling.

Sports Minister M.S Gill had lashed out at IPL, describing it as ‘commercial use of cricket for business gains’.

IPL said they have asked the company IPLAYUP to look into the concerns.

“IPL has informed IPLAYUP to resolve the concerns of all stakeholders involved and will be keen to go ahead once the legislative bodies have given the clearance,” an IPL statement said.

IPL said it “believes that an interactive and TV viewer engaging element is a great way forward to get the fans closer to the game.”
