November 19th, 2009 - 12:40 am ICT by IANSNew Delhi, Nov 18 (IANS) External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna reached Kabul Wednesday, a day ahead of the inauguration of President Hamid Karzai for a second term.
India had earlier send its congratulations to President Karzai for winning the second presidential elections in the war-ravaged country. India has a large multi-billion dollar rehabilitation and development programme in Afghanistan, which includes building power and road projects.
Indian Vice-President Hamid Ansari was earlier scheduled to attend the function, but as it coincided with the start of parliament’s winter session, Krishna was asked to go.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have also reached the Afghan capital to attend the ceremony.
