Smithsonian Museum of Natural History has Small Fire
February 8th, 2011 - 12:30 am ICT by Angela Kaye MasonFeb 7 (THAINDIAN NEWS) On Monday a small fire which broke out in the Smithsonian museum located in Washington, DC, was quickly put out by the city;s fire department with no injuries and minimal damage to report, according to a report from the AFP.
Firefighters were called to the scene at the Smithsonian Museum of National History which is one of the more popular locations which is in the National Mall in Washington. The fire was said to have began in the air conditioning system, and spread quickly into the insulation.
The city’s deputy fire chief, Kenneth Crosswhite stated, “The fire is under control. You could even say it’s out… and damage is minimal.” He went on to add that there were no injuries reported since the museum was closed at the time. Rush hour traffic was halted for a time on several blocks around the building as a cloud of black smoke rose from the museum.
