According to the Sri Lanka Guardian, Parvathi Pillai was at the Valvetithurai Hospital since last month due to several illnesses, including heart problem.
At the time of her admission to the hospital, the 81-year-old was already partially paralyzed and diabetic.
Parvathi was brought to India from Malaysia for treatment in April last year, but the Indian government denied her entry on the basis that she was a threat to national security.
Later, the Tamil Nadu government offered her a conditional visa to be admitted to a hospital in Chennai. However, she deferred her visit to India and remained in Sri Lanka.
Prabhakaran had was the founder and leader of the LTTE or the Tamil Tigers, a militant organization that sought to create an independent Tamil state in the north and east of Sri Lanka.
For over 25 years, the LTTE waged a violent secessionist campaign in Sri Lanka that led to it being designated a terrorist organization by 32 countries.
On May 18, 2009, the Sri Lankan Government had announced that Prabhakaran had been killed while trying to escape advancing Sri Lanka Army troops in the north of the country.
Prabhakaran was wanted by Interpol for terrorism, murder, organized crime and terrorism conspiracy. He also had arrest warrants against him in Sri Lanka and India. (ANI)
