Slain Brit-Indian girl’s ex-boyfriend charged for her murder
January 24th, 2010 - 1:14 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan. 24 (ANI): The ex-boyfriend of Indian-origin teen Asha Muneer, who was stabbed to death on a riverside path in UK last week, has been accused of her murder.
Gulamyr Akhter, 19, is charged for killing Muneer, 18, last Monday.
Akhter appeared at East Berkshire Magistrates Court, where he was flanked by three security guards, News of the World reports.
Wearing a white shirt, Akhter spoke only to confirm his name and Reading address.
He was remanded in custody until he appears at the city’s crown court on February 1.
Asha’s family and friends were in court for the hearing.
The pretty A-level student lived with four sisters, a brother and her parents.
Last week the grief- stricken family described her as “a loving, beautiful daughter”.
She was on her way to meet friends at a McDonald’s when she was stabbed in the head and neck.
Her body was found on a secluded path next to the River Kennet in Reading.
A post-mortem revealed 25 knife wounds. (ANI)
