Skinheads’ orgy of violence at Russian festival leaves girl dead, over 100 injured
August 30th, 2010 - 6:43 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug 30 (ANI): Fifteen of about 100 bare-chested skinhead attackers who rampaged through a rock concert in central Russia attacking people with iron clubs, have been detained.
According to The Guardian, the attack had killed a 14-year-old girl and injured over 100 others present at the concert.
The teenager was among a crowd of around 3,000 people at the Tornado festival in Miass, 900 miles east of Moscow, when the attack took place.
She had reportedly suffered multiple stab wounds.
According to the witnesses, the skinheads burst through security cordons, pushing police aside and attacking the visitors. Fourteen ambulances were reportedly rushed to the spot.
15 attackers were detained, but the majority fled the venue.
Russia has an ingrained neo-Nazi skinhead movement and attacks on foreigners in Moscow and St Petersburg have been relatively common in recent years, the paper reports.
The January 2009 murder of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasiya Baburova prompted a Kremlin crackdown on ultra-nationalists, who were blamed for the killings. (ANI)
