Six sentenced to death over July riots in China
October 12th, 2009 - 6:57 pm ICT by IANSUrumqi (China), Oct 12 (Xinhua) A Chinese court Monday sentenced six people to death for murder and other crimes during riots in July in northwestern part of the country, officials said.
At least 197 people were killed and more than 1,600 injured during riots in northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region.
Another man was jailed for life by the Intermediate People’s Court in the provincial capital Urumqi, after he confessed to crimes of murder and robbery, and helped the police capture a co-accused.
The public prosecutors presented testimonies of witnesses, autopsy reports and other evidences at the court during the trial.
