Six killed in US bus crash
July 22nd, 2010 - 10:42 pm ICT by IANSLos Angeles, July 22 (DPA) Six people were killed and 34 were injured in a horrific bus crash early Thursday in eastern California, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Four of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.
The accident occurred at around 2.15 a.m. (0915 GMT) on Highway 99 near the farming town of Fresno, some 350 km north of Los Angeles.
Police believe that the Greyhound bus travelling from Los Angeles to Sacramento struck a car that had overturned in the fast lane of the highway, then swerved out of control down an embankment before hitting a tree.
At least one of the people who died had been inside the overturned car, police said.
