Six killed in attacks in SomaliaFebruary 23rd, 2008 - 11:52 pm ICT by admin
Mogadishu, Feb 23 (Xinhua) Six people including four policemen were killed and seven others wounded in separate attacks on Somalian and Ethiopian troops here, reports said Saturday. Suspected Islamist insurgents wearing police uniform assaulted a police vehicle, killing four of officials and wounding three others in Yaqshid district of Mogadishu, Simba radio reported.
It is for the first time Somali insurgents have used the tactic of using police uniforms to carry out attacks on government targets.
A senior police officer confirmed the attack on condition of anonymity and said an investigation into is underway.
In a separate incident, two people were killed and four others wounded when a roadside bomb went off minutes after an Ethiopian military convoy passed through the city.
The Ethiopian and Somalian troops carried out searches at the site of blast and arrested a number of people, an official said.
Insurgents opposed to the presence of Ethiopian troops in Somalia and government police have been waging regular Iraqi-style guerrilla attacks on government and foreign forces in the country since early last year.
