Three people were killed and six others injured when militants attacked five separate homes with explosive devices at dawn in the area of Abu Ghraib, 20 km west of Baghdad, police said.
One of the homes attacked belonged to an Iraqi policeman.
Separately, three Shiite pilgrims were killed and 13 others were injured while attending a religious occasion in Baghdad, Iraqi news agency Aswat al-Iraq reported.
Hundreds of thousands of Shiite pilgrims have been making their way to the Baghdad suburb of al-Kadhimiya on foot in recent days in order to commemorate the death of Imam Moussa Ibn Abi Jaafar, also known as al-Kadhem.
A mortar shell hit the al-Kadhimiya area Tuesday night, killing three pilgrims and injuring eight others.
Four other pilgrims were wounded when a roadside bomb targeting a crowd of pilgrims in al-Kadhimiya exploded.
Another roadside bomb on Mohammed al-Qassim highway in central Baghdad injured one pilgrim.
