Six dead, 18 missing after mud-rock flow hits village in northwest China
July 27th, 2010 - 10:11 pm ICT by BNO NewsSHANGLUO, CHINA (BNO NEWS) — At least six people were killed on Saturday and scores of others remain missing after a mud-rock flow hit a village in northwest China, state-run media reported on Tuesday.
The rain-triggered mud-rock flow hit Qiaoergou Village, part of Shangluo City, in the country’s Shaanxi Province last Saturday, but was not publicized until Tuesday.
The state-run Xinhua news agency reported that around 30 people were initially buried, but several of them were rescued. Five of them sustained serious injuries, Xinhua reported.
As of Tuesday, rescuers retrieved six bodies. Eighteen others remain missing, and are believed to have been killed.
Some 530 villagers were evacuated after the incident.
Also on Tuesday, a rain-triggered landslide struck villages in Ya’an City, in the country’s Sichuan Province, leaving 21 people missing.
