‘Simpsons’ fan to attempt world record by watching 451 episodes in one go
January 15th, 2010 - 4:59 pm ICT by ANILondon, Jan 15 (ANI): A Brit man is such a big fan of ‘The Simpsons’ that he is attempting to set a world record by watching all 451 episodes of the cartoon comedy back to back.
Glyn Stott, plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his favourite television show by enduring more than 150 hours of sleep deprivation to view its entire back catalogue.
And if the 34-year-old man manages to stay awake to see every episode shown in Britain since its launch in January 1990, he will earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records.
Officials will keep a close eye on Stott’s six-day feat to ensure he does not fall asleep.
“I’m a huge fan of the show and I’ve seen every episode but watching them continuously for almost a week will be a feat of endurance,” the Telegraph quoted Stott, from Merthyr Tydfil, South Wales, as saying.
“The judges have to make sure my eyes are firmly fixed on the screen - I have to be seen to be concentrating all the way through,” he added.
Currently an American viewer boasts a record for non-stop television watching, but Stott believes his adoration of the show’s characters Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie, will help him smash the feat.
Stott will get a 20-minute break at the end of every three episodes and he must stick to the strict rules laid down by Guinness.
Fox Broadcasting Company, for which ‘The Simpsons’ is produced, is backing Stott’s world record attempt by sending him every episode on DVD.
“Nearly a week without sleep watching TV - Homer would be proud of him,” said a Fox spokesman. (ANI)
