Tucson, Mar 25(ANI): Two-and-a half months after suffering a gunshot wound to the head, US congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords is beginning to walk and talk, her husband Mark Kelly has said.

Kelly shared details of Giffords’ progress at TIRR Memorial-Hermann Rehabilitation hospital in Houston.

He said that the congresswoman receives daily briefings from her staff.

“She is improving every day, and in the realm of brain injuries, that is very significant and pretty rare,” ABC News quoted Kelly, as saying.

While Giffords apparently did not remember the attack, Kelly said that she is now beginning to cope with the tragedy.

“Despite that, she remains in a very good mood,” he said.

Gabrielle, and 18 others were shot on January 8 when 22-year-old Jared L. Loughner opened fire at a “Congress on Your Corner” event in Tucson, Arizona where she was meeting with her constituents.

In all, 13 people were wounded and another six people, including a nine-year-old girl, died in the attack.

Loughner had earlier pleaded not guilty to federal charges of trying to assassinate Giffords and kill two of her aides.

The 22-year-old could face the death penalty if found guilty. (ANI)
