Shopper left horrified after finding newborn mice in Tesco crisps packet
December 14th, 2010 - 7:04 pm ICT by ANILondon, Dec 14 (ANI): A shopper in Britain has revealed that she was left horrified and disgusted after newborn mice burst out of a packet of crisps she had just picked up in Tesco.
Liz Wray, a mum-of-one, said she was disgusted when she saw the half dozen pink mice drop from the McCoys multipacks at the new Tesco store in Aston, Birmingham.
“I was with a work colleague who reached out towards the crisps and started screaming. Suddenly these tiny pink things appeared from the multipacks and were lying in front of us,” the Sun quoted her as saying.
“They were repulsive and made me feel revolting. There were half a dozen of them crawling out of different holes in the crisps and we couldn’t believe our eyes.
“There were a lot of holes in the bag - they’d obviously been at them,” she said.
She quickly snapped pictures of the mice on her phone and confronted the store manager - but said she was outraged that shop bosses decided not to shut it down.
“I asked the store manager what the normal policy is and they said that they wouldn’t close down the store,” she said.
“When I rang the head office I was told that the policy is to ring environmental health and get them to investigate.
“I wanted to make sure it got done so I called them myself. They should have shut the whole store,” she stated.
Wray, who is in her 40s and works as a health visitor, said she was astonished at the shop’s attitude when she told them what had happened.
“When I told the store manager, he said ‘We can’t do much about it because we are near a canal and railway track and the mice tend to come through the floor’,” she revealed.
“I couldn’t believe he was saying that to me. The whole situation was horrible. All the staff did was put a cardboard box over the mice and closed aisle six,” she added.
A Tesco spokesman apologised for what had happened and said the problem had now been dealt with. (ANI)
