She made 800 hoax calls to cops, now faces jail
December 30th, 2011 - 8:26 pm ICT by IANSLondon, Dec 30 (IANS) A teenaged girl in Britain has been taken to court for making around 800 hoax calls to police emergency number 999 on Christmas and the following day.
Kerry Ann Moate, 18, dialled police 756 times over the holidays. She had previously made another 44 calls between Dec 11 and 13, The Sun reported.
The girl admitted making the calls at a magistrates’ court in Huntingdon, around 106 km from London.
Moate will be sentenced in January.
“The sheer volume of malicious calls was extremely disruptive at a busy time. Every time someone misuses 999, they are potentially putting others’ lives at risk. We will actively pursue those who make malicious calls,” police official Paul Fullwood said.
