Shawntina Burston pleads not guilty to murdering her husband
February 1st, 2011 - 10:44 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattMedford, Feb 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 39-year-old Medford woman has pleaded not guilty to murdering her husband.
Authorities believe that Shawntina Burston stabbed and killed her husband in what they believe was a domestic fight. The incident happened late Sunday and Shawntina has been charged with first-degree murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
Shawntina has been ordered back into jail without bail.
According to the police, they answered a 911 call which took them to the address where Shawntina and her husband lived. They found Shawntina’s husband, Troy Burston, at the front door of their home bleeding from a stab wound on his upper left chest.
The police tried to get him to the hospital but he was pronounced dead when they arrived at the hospital. When the police questioned Shawntina, she revealed that Troy tried to choke her to death, prompting her to act in self defense.
However when the police took her to the station to further question her, her story changed dramatically. She told the police that she had been fighting with Troy for most part of the day and just wanted to scare him with the knife when she accidentally stabbed him.
Shawntina is expected back in court on the 25th day of February.
