Shannon Burke held for shooting his wife and her dogMay 3rd, 2009 - 3:13 am ICT by GD
Shannon Burke, the popular Central Florida radio host was arrested on the 30th of April, on the charges of shooting his wife, Catherine and her dog, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. Reports have come in that after returning to his Altamonte Springs home, Burke found that his wife’s dog was let lose. Burke picked up his .40 caliber gun and was waving it at the dog when the weapon discharged. The bullet entered the dog’s leg and grazed his wife’s head. Burke mentioned that the bullet then bounced in the room. Burke’s next step was to call the police and report the shooting incident.
Burke, however, has insisted that the shoot out was an accident and he did not know that the gun was loaded. Richard Hornsby, Shannon Burke’s attorney has told the media that the whole incident was a tragedy and that Burke “did not mean to hurt anyone.” However, Lt. James Clark with the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that this could not be used as an excuse. He also commented that the bone of contention of the whole issue was that Burke had a gun and had “endangered everyone with his carelessness.”
The police have noted that 43 year old Shannon Burke does not have any criminal record and possessed a license for his gun. However, Burke had been serving probation for the charge of reckless driving. The Seminole County Judge, Jerri L. Collins has set the bail at $10,000 and has ordered Burke to wear a monitoring device when he is released. Burke’s wife is still in the hospital and her dog may lose its leg.
