Shanghai commuters want ‘non-snacking’ Metro
January 4th, 2012 - 9:22 pm ICT by IANSShanghai, Jan 4 (IANS) Subway passengers in China’s bustling Shanghai city are demanding that snacking be banned on their Metro.
Shanghai Times said Wednesday that the commuters may be willing to tolerate people munching away on sandwiches, noodles or bags of chestnuts. But they can’t tolerate mice that feed on leftovers and crumbs.
A commuter recalled that she saw a “black shadow” drop from the ceiling of a metro carriage into the lap of a girl sitting opposite her.
The girl fled shrieking to another carriage while the mouse escaped underneath the seat. Other passengers have complained online about similar sightings on Shanghai Metro.
Metro operators say banning commuters from eating or drinking was not practical in a populated city like Shanghai.
