CARACAS (BNO NEWS) — Up to seven people were killed and several others were injured when a small plane crashed into homes in the Venezuelan city of Cumaná on Sunday, reports said.

The plane crashed in a neighborhood close to Antonio José de Sucre International Airport around 3.30 p.m. local time, according to the El Nacional newspaper. Photos from local media showed parts of an aircraft in the ruins of several homes.

There were conflicting reports on the number of casualties. The Panorama newspaper said at least seven people had been killed, but other reports said the number of fatalities was six, including a 17-year-old pregnant girl. At least two young children were also among the fatalities. One or two people were believed to have been injured.

“Civil Defense sources described the crash as a serious accident,” the El Nacional newspaper reported. “They indicated that the aircraft and the house which it slammed into were completely destroyed. Officials struggled to douse the flames and rescue the survivors.”
