Seven security officials killed in Iraq violence
July 26th, 2010 - 12:01 am ICT by IANSMosul (Iraq), July 25 (DPA) Seven people, all of them police officers and security guards, were killed Sunday in violent incidents in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, officials said.
A bomb killed three police officers and wounded two others while they were on patrol. Another roadside bomb killed a police officer and wounded a child in another location across the town.
Separately, a captain in the police force was killed in a shooting incident, as were two of his bodyguards, spokesmen for the security services said.
Mosul, some 400 km north of Baghdad, is among the most ethnically diverse, and dangerous regions of Iraq. Insurgents continue to mount near-daily attacks in the area, despite successive security sweeps that police say have netted hundreds of detainees.
