Seven killed in China attack
July 31st, 2011 - 12:21 pm ICT by IANSBeijing, July 31 (IANS) At least seven people died in a Chinese province late Saturday when two men hijacked a truck, stabbed the driver to death and rammed the vehicle into pedestrians, officials said Sunday.
The incident took place at 11.45 p.m. in Kashgar city in northwest Xinjiang Uygur region, Xinhua reported. At least 28 others were injured.
After the two men rammed the truck into pedestrians, they jumped out of the vehicle and also hacked the passers-by, the officials said.
One of the attackers died after locals retaliated, while the other was nabbed.
Before the incident, two blasts were also heard in the area around 10.30 p.m. Xinjiang, home to ethnic minorities Uygur, has been affected by violence for some time now.
On July 18, at least 14 rioters, who attacked a police station and killed four people in Hotan city, were shot dead by security forces. The four people who died included a police officer.
