Serbia using testicle-cooking competition to attract tourists
August 17th, 2010 - 1:08 pm ICT by ANIMelbourne, Aug 17 (ANI): What whisky did to Scotland and cheese and chocolate did to Switzerland, tourism chiefs in Serbia are expecting that their annual testicle cooking competition would do the same to their region too.
This is the seventh time that the Testicle Cooking World Championship in Ozrem is taking place and the organisers are expecting it to attract more international tourists.
It is open to cooks from all across the globe.
Dishes, said to have aphrodisiac qualities, are made from the testicles of animals including bull, wild boar, horse, shark, ostrich, kangaroo, donkey, turkey, goat, reindeer and elk.
Organisers admitted that they rarely get chefs from abroad; however, they are hoping the festival will attract international visitors to sample the food.
“The importance of a recognizable brand to sell a region cannot be underestimated,’ News.com.au quoted Ivo Mokovich, festival organizer, as saying.
“Look at how many people go to Scotland because of the whisky or how many people know Switzerland because of their cheese and chocolate.
“We are now hoping that the many famous and varied dishes that we have created in the region will become world-famous.’
The cooking contest is set to being on August 27. (ANI)
