Security lapse triggers chaos at Sydney airport
April 19th, 2011 - 6:59 pm ICT by ANISydney, Apr 19 (ANI): A security lapse caused by the power failure at a domestic terminal of Sydney Airport resulted in chaos for passengers.
According to the Herald Sun, hundreds of travellers were told to evacuate the airport’s Terminal 2 after the power failure.
Sydney Airport confirmed 16 passengers walked through a security screening point unchecked in the T2 terminal after the power failure at 3.15 p.m.
Accordingly, a decision was taken to clear the area and re-screen all passengers, said airport security officials.
Passengers were later allowed into the check-in area. Many flights were cancelled or delayed as a result of the event.
Its effect was felt in Melbourne, with at least two flights heading towards Tullamarine being cancelled, and at least 13 flights being delayed.
Delays also affected Virgin Blue, QantasLink and Tiger Airways flights. (ANI)
