Kolkata, Sep 14 (IANS) Security was beefed up and an alert was issued in the city following Saturday’s serial blasts in New Delhi, with additional police personnel deployed at vital installations and public places.Disclosing this, deputy commissioner of city police (headquarters) Vineet Goel told newspersons here that special teams have been formed to carry out random checks at multiplexes and shopping malls to ascertain whether security was fool-proof.
There was more police presence on the road, with patrol vans making frequent rounds of various localities and sensitive places.
“More policemen have been posted at government buildings like the secretariat and city police headquarters, besides enhanced security at railways stations and the NSC Bose International Airport,” Goel said.
The multiplexes and shopping malls have been asked to use close-circuit television cameras and deploy former policemen as security supervisors.
“We will also give training to the private security guards deployed at the malls and multiplexes,” he said.
Goel also asked people to be cautious but not to panic. “Don’t lay your hand on any abandoned object in buses or trains or on the streets. Please also keep garbage dumping places clear,” he said.
Twenty-one people died and about 100 were injured in the five serial blasts in New Delhi Saturday.
