Secret of Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’ revealed by Wikipedia
August 30th, 2010 - 12:34 pm ICT by ANILondon, Aug 30 (ANI): Wikipedia has put an end to the long-standing mystery of whodunit in one of the most famous Agatha Christie novels ‘The Mousetrap’.
For 58 years, the identity of the killer in Agatha Christie’s ‘The Mousetrap’ has been one of theatre’s most closely guarded secrets.
But the killer’s identity was finally revealed on Wikipedia, despite protests from the author’s family and petitions from fans to remove the spoiler, reports the Daily Mail.
Mathew Prichard, Christie’s grandson, described the online encyclopaedia’s decision as ‘unfortunate’.
Prichard plans to raise the matter with the play’s producer, Sir Stephen Waley-Cohen.
“My grandmother always got upset if the plots of her books or plays were revealed in reviews - and I don’t think this is any different,” said Prichard.
“I think it is a pity if a publication, if I can call it that, potentially spoils the enjoyment for people who go to see the play,” he added.
“Asking Wikipedia not to reveal the murderer’s identity is like asking a library to remove copies of a book because someone could just go and read the end,” said a Wikipedia spokesperson. (ANI)
